Nelson was developed for high forage production in the Deep South and Mid South of the USA. It can be over-seeded on warm season perennial pastures or drilled into prepared seedbeds in the autumn.
Nelson ryegrass yielded 2,000 pounds more per acre in many tests. Because it is a tetraploid the seed of Nelson ryegrass is larger than the seed of Gulf ryegrass.
